Wardrobe Staples: Pretty Little Dresses

Taking it back to basics this week by showcasing wardrobe staples – dresses edition. Wardrobe staples are classics that you can’t live without. Timeless pieces that you recycle over and over with other pieces from your closet. PrettyLittleThing has an array of beautiful dresses at the most affordable prices. Seriously you can’t beat them. I had a look for through only this morning and there was more than 50% off dresses. WHET?!!

The one-shoulder dress

Clavicle is the new cleavage. I love a one-shoulder dress because it highlights the shoulders, elongates the neck and just adds a little bit more to a simple dress. PrettyLittleThing has a great selection of one-shoulder dresses. I can’t believe this yellow one is only £18! I have a thing for polka dots and I picked this gorgeous Chocolate Polka Dot One Shoulder Ruffle Detail Pleated Midi Dress number which features pleats and a slight frilly cape around the neckline. This versatile number can be paired with a plain long sleeve top underneath in colder temperatures.

The midaxi dress

This is more than a wardrobe staple for me. I live in midi dresses! The midaxi dress is a mix between a maxi and a midi dress. Perfection. A midaxi dress is a must have because they can be worn all year round and they are so comfy and flattering on all body shapes and sizes. This Red Chain Leopard Print Frill Detail Midaxi Dress is absolutely stunning.

The denim dress

What’s not to love about a hot denim dress? It’s a classic. This one I’m wearing is from Pretty Little Thing and it’s the Maya Jama Mid Wash Denim Button Up Tie Detail Shirt Dress.  I love the very stylish cut and wash denim colour. This is almost sold out because, look at it! I had so many complements in this 😉

Choosing the perfect dress is not easy. There are a lot of elements to consider, including patterns, necklines and hemlines. But one often overlooked factor is length. One of the best lengths you can choose is a midi piece, which has a hemline ending somewhere above your ankles but always below your knees. That is because a mini dress may not be appropriate for work or other professional or formal occasions. Similarly, a floor-length gown is not exactly casual. On the other hand, a midi dress is of a length you can wear for a multitude of occasions. A midi dress can also serve you well because simply changing the accessories you wear with it can give the dress a completely different appearance. For example, a black midi dress is perfect to wear on a date with some pretty jewellery and heels. Wear that same dress with flats and a nice jacket and it suddenly transforms into appropriate work attire.
