Kanye West adds one more title to his already long list of multiple talents. The rapper who has been noted for his bold fashion choices tries his own hand at fashion by introducing his own fashion line, the DW Kanye West brand. The designs were dedicated to his mother Donda who passed away in 2007 due to complications following a cosmetic surgery.
The hip hop star’s line, Dw Kanye West had models strutting their stuff on the catwalk in an array of bottom-exposing hotpants, massive fur collars and oversize structural zips – and the reaction has been almost universally negative.
‘Good thing Kanye has a day job… The only thing more painful than witnessing the dress was watching the model pitch down the runway in shoes so ill-fitting that her spike heels were bending at angles.
‘One breastplate of a top – recalled the Flintstones… There were lots and lots of tight leather pants… Yet a vast quantity of luxury materials can’t blind people to a lack of creative marksmanship.’ The fashion blogger from Wall Street Journal wrote.
Although the debut line has received some really harsh feedback from fashion critics, Kanye refuses to give up without a fight. He declared, ‘We don’t know what the reviews will be, we don’t know what they will say, but I got a chance to go to Italy and feel those fabrics… I took out motherf***ing loans to get the best models, to get the best designers, to get the best venue. I gave you everything that I had.
‘This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow. This is not some celebrity s***. I don’t f*** with celebrities. I f*** with the creatives in this room, the amazing people who spend every day of their life trying to make the world a more beautiful place.
‘The amount of people that tried to get me a celebrity f***ing deal. They said, ‘You need to do boot-cut jeans, or you won’t sell.’ Shut the f*** up !… I can only grow from this point.’
Personally? All I can say is I have seen worse on the runways. So give him a break on this one. I especially applaud his choice of nude tones. I love his play on the zips. And good choice on the fabrics, they look damn expensive!
Now what’s your own personal reaction? Hate it or Love it?
