So this #InstagramRapture had me in in fits and kept me up laughing like mad last night. I saw this message on Insta when I logged on last week and thought, oooh this is not going to go down too well.
We all know some people make a living out of the huge following their social media accounts boast. As a blogger, I have seen brands contact you and develop cold feet when the find out you haven’t cracked a 5 or 6 figure following on Instagram yet. WOMP.
So yes, the pressure is on. To buy fake followers so that big brand names witll contact you for product endorsements. Lawd knows I have thought twice and real hard about it. But the shame is just too much. People be having 20K with 30 likes and 0 engagemnet on their pics…
Instagram was like no, no, NAWL we ain’t having NONE of that.
So the #Rapture happened…
A lot of folks, including me, lost about 5% of their followers.
I was gearing up to hit 3K when, Instagram hit me with 200 followers OFF. Womp 🙁
Damn. But I shoulda known something was up when most of my followers were body wraps and hair bundles sellers 0_o
5-10% is the normal rate for followers to lose in Instagram’s latest clean sweep. But if you lost more than 5%, gwirl, you have been investing in the wrong venture.
Someone made a list titled, The Biggest Losers and I have been laughing non-stop err since. Like Akon went from 4.3 million followers to 1.9 followers. Hahahaha!! Instagram is SOOO petty. I love them. They knew this was gonna happen.
And Mase went from 1.7 million followers to 272,000. The tea was SPILLT! Lmao. And Mase was having none of that. He quit Instagram yesterday.
Users like chiragchirag78 went from 3.6 million to 8 followers. Yes, 8. As in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7…8.
Why, Lordt, WHY? LOL. They must have known. As soon as Instagram made that announcement, they should have gone out the back door to avert such public humiliation. As of yesterday, the account no more exists on Instagram. The tea was too hot to handle. WELP.

As funny as this is, there is a serious underlying issue here. The need to appear popular on social media is going out of hand that we need to fool our own selves of how important/loved we are.
At the end of the day, a like or follow doesn’t validate anything. It ain’t that serious. Or is it?
What is going on here people?
It’s Friday people. ENJOY.
