ABY Discussion: How Long Should You Date A Guy Before Expecting A Proposal?
I was reading this article yesterday on Bella Naija about Toke Makinwa and her beau Maje Ayida and the PDA in Lagos. The article mentioned the pair have been dating for 11 years. What I found even more intriguing were the comments that ensued: 'Dating for 11years????????? Key holder things, she wants him by all means for her to hangon, Maje please wife her now, you have been getting free milk for 11years, dont you want the cow?...[sic]' 'Walahi she tried. Dating a guy for 11year? That’s equivalent as getting married now! And still now, no child(ren), cos the guy would hv stopped using condom now. Not even an engagement ring on that finger? She tried oo. So the guy has been enjoying free food for the past 11yrs??? Like seriously? It still baffles me though. No hard feelings trust me but omotoke, u tried..[sic]' 'Maje please wife that babe, she has tried...' How could they have dating for 11 years? Will he ever marry her? Has she not been dropping any hints or what?  My question is, when does dating become too long? After 7 years, 9 years, 15 years? What is the average time for two people to be together in a relationship before they  the guy decides to take things further.  Some people in similar situations have become experts at the art of hint-dropping and begged their boyfriends to tie the knot to no avail. But then again, I've seen genuinely happy couples who just don't believe in matrimony. It's all a farce to them. For some people believe marriage and and all the legal nonentities that come with it ruin and jinx a once happy and joyous union.  What most girls dread in such situations is a guy who will walk away after 13 years worth of memories, trust, planning, overcoming, laughter, tears, nicknames, arguments...(insert applicable experience) and marry another girl he's only been with for a year or so. #thunderfire! A barrage of thoughts and questions will flood her being. Next thing you know, self-doubt and low self-esteem set in. This is true for everyone. But if your man starts looking like this kanye west gif every time you mention a possible future together, then by all means, do a Usain Bolt. If 15 years is too long, when is the ideal time for a guy to make that knee drop and pop out that long-awaited diamond?  Personally, even though I support happy (key word there is HAPPY) couples in their long-term-next-to-infinity relationships, I just prefer to see growth and evolution in any union I get involved in. Even if we are not getting hitched anytime soon, we should at least have future 'settling' plans in the works.  Which umbrella do you fall under? Do you think you can be with someone for as long as a decade without a legally binding contract keeping you together? Come to think of it, for some people it only takes them a few months to get to know each other, fall head over heels in love with them and next thing you know, they're tying the knot. Some of our great grand parents dated their partners for decades before tying the knot; some of them never even tie the knot yet they live together till death does them apart. So all this fuss about numbers and wasted years, are girls just being paranoid? Does it really matter if, or more importantly WHEN he puts a ring on it? Please tell me oh. Let me know when to start giving my man the side-eye... If this is your face every time you hear, 'Babes come to bed,'tumblr_mk4p1lVnc71rts1j7o1_400Then there is definitely a problem you haven't addressed yet. Hopefully this discussion topic isn't one of them! Everyone has an opinion, what is yours? Rate it, comment, subscribe and share this. Stay tuned for more. Love & Light x

Beauty: Nude Lipsticks For Girls of Colour
People don't know how hard it is to find just the shade of nude lipstick that will blend in with your skin tone and make your skin look divine. Finding anything in flesh tone - be it tights, leggings, underwear or lipstick- is a challenge. Before we carry on, one thing must be clear, nude lipstick is different from lip gloss. I see a lot of people wearing lip gloss and hashtagging #nudelips. They are not the same thing. There are a few things to consider when choosing the right shade of nude lipstick for your skin colour. 1. Exfoliate - Dry and chapped lip and nude lipsticks (or any other lipsticks for that matter) is never a good idea. Make sure your lips are moisturised and free of any dead skin before applying any kind of lip colour especially if your are using a matte lipstick. Try The Body Shop Lipscuff which is perfect for dry and flaky lips. 2. Cover Up - Different people have different lip colours. If you have a strong lip colour naturally, use a thin layer of your concealer under your lipstick to tone it down. The outer part of the lips are usually darker than the inner parts. To even even this out, use your concealer, primer or foundation. Applying foundation or concealer on your lips will create the perfect base for a nude lipstick.  Also, stay away from cooler nude colours with grey undertones because they can make you look dull and pale.  3. Avoid White - Like lip gloss, nude lipstick is NOT white lipstick. Many a girl has sported the well-known corpse bride white/ashy lips in the name of nude. Stick to beige and very light pink tones.  nude4 4. Dramat-Eyes - A nude lipstick is the perfect opportunity to play up your eyes. A dark smoky eye will give you that dramatic look and will stand out with just the right nude lipstick. Tip: A popping hair colour is also a great accessory to a nude lip. Think Rihanna in her carrot hair days. rihanna red hair 5. Smile Bright Like a Diamond - last but not least, don't forget to keep your teeth white and clean! Red lipsticks can make your teeth look so white you might as well be a  spokesgirl for Colgate :) In the same way, a pale lip colour can make teeth appear yellowish so make sure to polish those pearly whites. Or, if you really want to shine, try a teeth-whitening product like Crest Whitestrips. Now that we know, how to wear a nude lipstick, let's go about picking the best ones for each skin tone. Don't restrict yourself to these categories. even though the suggested colours below are most complementary Please feel free to try other nude shades, you may be surprised!  Yours Truly in her nude gear. How Travel Makes You More Attractive

Daniel Jackson shot supermodel Christy Turlington and Calvin Klein creative directors Francisco Costa, Italo Zucchelli and Kevin Carrigan for WSJ. Magazine. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful.

Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain…

As you may be aware from the proliferation of headlines that end in “…and the internet is very upset about it!” the Internet is constantly very upset about various things. Some of those things provoke quite understandable if not righteous upper. Other times though, the internet just seems bored and looking for something to kick around the ol’ Twitter echo chamber.

The world of fashion meanwhile has a long history of provoking, teasing, scandalizing, and, dare we say it, trolling. Actual scandal-worthy fashion moments aside, it is of little surprise then that occasionally otherwise inoffensive fashion items and objects get caught in the Twitter outrage cycle simply for existing. Would fashion really be doing it’s job in 2017 if it didn’t occasionally provoke such strong reactions online? We have little doubt that that was the point at least some of these designers (we’re looking at you Demna) were trying to make. Others maybe were perhaps just playing catch up on what they perceived as a trend.

Beauty has so many forms, and I think the most beautiful thing is confidence and loving yourself.

Fall decorating presents the opportunity to revel in luxury. Fabrics become more substantial, color palettes transition to rich hues, and just about every design decision for the season revolves around cultivating a cozy living environment. In an effort to help you make your space ideal for fall, a group of design tastemakers reveal the decor trends to expect in homes across the country this season, along with a few lessons you’ll want to consider.

Mike Rowe, host of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs, entered into the world online fashion critic earlier this year when he discovered a pair of $425 jeans on sale at Nordstrom’s from the brand PRPS. He positioned them as another volley in “our country’s War on Work.” He continued, “They’re not even fashion. They’re a costume for wealthy people who see work as ironic – not iconic.” Fair point. Really though we were also a bit offended that DSquared2 already did the whole purposefully muddied jeans a few years ago. In fact, Gwen Stefani was spotted wearing the originals when she first started dating Blake Shelton. See, there are occasional situation in which a high fashion-meets-down home country boy aesthetic really is necessary.

How do you add intrigue to a minimal outfit? By clashing textures and skillfully blending high and low pieces. Jil Sander’s PVC trench is a trophy piece of the highest order; make it sing by pairing it with blue denim and a subtle slogan tee in clean white. Want to dial up the drama even more? Apply a liberal helping of spring’s most covetable accessories: a structural leather bag (Wandler’s Hortensia style is an instant classic); of-the-moment statement earrings courtesy of Alessandra Rich; and The Row’s envy-inducing stiletto boots.

Like exercise trends of earlier decades, it can feel like one more requirement of womanhood

We get why people would be outraged from a certain view, but we also think at least some of these designers are in on the joke. Maybe the only question is what exactly the punchline is. Then again, when you think about it the entire world of high fashion is taking something mundane (clothing; we all have to wear it), and turning it into coveted and cutting-edge luxury items.

Life experience brings out different emotions and different perspectives on things. I just want to be constantly evolving.

People were absolutely astounded, at least in between that time that they read the Tweet or headline and when they actually go to the details, that Prada was selling a $150 “paper clip.” In reality, of course, it was a sterling silver money clip shaped like a paper clip (and when you really think about it, all clips really do the same thing). $150 is a lot for a paper clip, but it’s actually not that eye boggling when you look at other high-end money clips.
