40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa

By Posted on 2 2.6K

On 12 October 2011, Forbes, famous for its powerful rankings of influential and famous people in different categories released a new ranking: The 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa. This is a debut ranking in its category and I hope it will serve as a source of motivation for all Africans. More than 7,500 names were submitted and the top 40 was selected by voters. It is no surprise that the list is dominated by musicians. This only goes to strengthen my belief that music is one of the strongest mediums of communicating feelings and emotions, it is also a powerful tool that connects the singer to the listener and should never misused. Notables on the list also include authors, models, athletes, movie directors and actors.

The article went on to explain the criteria as ‘determining the celebrities who exert the highest …

The Clothes We Eat & The Food We Wear

By Posted on 1 1.1K

These spectacular outfits are all made out of food. What I find amazing is how they seem to drape and flow as beautifully as normal fabrics would. This depicts creativity at a level that one cannot even begin to break down in detail. The only downside to this is that if I left the house in one of these I would be naked by the time I reached my destination. Reason being that? Well, obviously I can’t keep my hands away from food. See if you can identify the different foods used in some of the outfits.

Head Over Heels

This is a ‘food for thought’ post so am not going to say much. I am currently on a stiletto/heels hunt so I thought I’d look up some shoes. This is what I came up with. I don’t know how some of these are wearable but what the heck. I found them fascinating.

Kanye West introduces New Fashion Clothing Line DW

By Posted on 5 809

Kanye West adds one more title to his already long list of multiple talents. The rapper who has been noted for his bold fashion choices tries his own hand at fashion by introducing his own fashion line, the DW Kanye West brand. The designs were dedicated to his mother Donda who passed away in 2007 due to complications following a cosmetic surgery.

The hip hop star’s line, Dw Kanye West had models strutting their stuff on the catwalk in an array of bottom-exposing hotpants, massive fur collars and oversize structural zips – and the reaction has been almost universally negative.

‘Good thing Kanye has a day job… The only thing more painful than witnessing the dress was watching the model pitch down the runway in shoes so ill-fitting that her spike heels were bending at angles.

Pretty Pleats

Guess what is making a great comeback in the world of fashion? Yes you guessed right…or not. Either way, pleats are back. yes you heard right. Pleats. P.L.E.A.T.S. Long flowy pleats, mini pleats, colourful pleats, grandma pleats, maxi pleats, colour block pleats, runway pleats and whatever pleat style you can possibly think of. I don’t know about you but pleats for me have not always brought pleasant memories. In fact when I think of pleats, I think of my long gone secondary school days where plain white long sleeved shirts knotted with bow ties and tucked into huge black pleated skirts formed part of the Sunday morning attire which we had to wear. In fact that attire was considered a humiliating get up cooked up by those in power to embarrass the junior graders…Judging from the way I loathed that outfit back then, if asked I would …

Vintage Muse: Funeka Ngwevela

Funeka Ngwevela  is a 23 year old stylist and model from Johannesburg. Known to her friends as “Funi”, she is a self-professed “quirky stylista” who is fashioning South Africa one person at a time as a stylist. Funeka had this to say when asked about what inspired her style. “Normalcy is a plague and I refuse to be infected. I have an eye for style, a characteristic that is becoming increasingly rare with each passing day. Style is not about following trends, it is about finding what works for you. My style is indie, rock, retro, effortless and classic. My duty is to inspire you.” check out her blog The Quirky Stylista. Here’s why she’s going on my ‘Stylish Muses‘ list. Funi your style is impeccable. Go girl!

All Things Bow ‘N Beautiful.

The idea for this post came to me when I fell upon this amazing purse that was in the shape of one huge bow. It was the cutest thing ever. A few hours later I came across a stunning pair of wedge heels whose shape was bow inspired. That got me thinking, how many things is it possible to find in bow shape? I gave myself a huge challenge to find all things bow and beautiful. You will not believe the things I have found on this quest. Gone are the days when bow shapes were made for kids. Now this shape is a major silhoutte and inspiration for most designers out there. Ready to see what I found? Yea? I thought as much. Let’s bow!
