Style Diary: Tomilola E

April 12, 2012
Style comes in different shapes and sizes. Today’s Style Diary is Tomilola, one of the sweetest people I’ve ever come across (in the blogosphere!) I love her blog. Not only is Tomi honest and sweet but she is also well-styled by (who else, duh!) herself.
Read her Style Diary and find out what inspires her looks and personality.
Meet Tomi…Hey there. My name is Tomilola Escada. I am a Nigerian girl living in the UK. I’m currently studying LLB Law (boring, I know). I am a fashion and lifestyle blogger and a self-proclaimed bargain shop-a-holic!!

What is your dressing style? Hmm. My style is basically an enigma. I seriously can’t put a name on it, but I love playing with colours and prints. Any and everything influences my style choices. I refused to be limited. The streets, ideas, where I live, flowers, tree bark, animals…the colours on my iron..lol. At the moment though, I have an insane obsession with tumblr.
All time favourite shops/clothing brands. I have a love affair with ASOS, Primark, Miss Selfridges and Topshop. And, I have a love-hate relationship with Zara and American Apparel because they can be quite pricey. When I make enough money, the first thing I’ll get is a chanel bag- TIMELESS!

My beauty secret is? MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE!! MOISTURIZE!! My skin always looks and feels better when it is moisturized. I also never try to have a bad hair day! Hair is really important to me!

Favourite make-up brands. MAC, Revlon, Rimmel, Maybelline and Sleek! Oh Lancome has the best mascaras in my opinion 😀

What is the most beautiful thing about you and how do you accentuate it? Oooh! I don’t want to sound vain but I quite like my lips/smile, my height, my waist. I have a love-hate relationship with my skin. I like my legs too! But if I had to decide, I’d go with my waist so I wear a lot of high-waist clothing and belts to accentuate it.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional; with whom would it be and why? Definitely Thomas Edison. In my other life, I swear I was a scientist. I’d really love to invent something and be remembered even after I’m long gone. Most importantly, I’d love to come up with cool quotes like GENIUS IS ONE PERCENT INSPIRATION, NINETY-NINE PERCENT PERSPIRATION Like, how cool is that?? 😀

Definitely a scientist in there…somewhere!

Your favourite music track would be…? I’m currently in love with Hillsongs’ LIKE AN AVALANCHE

What is the last book you read? Does my international law textbook count?

Comment: ‘If you got it, flaunt it’…Haha! This phrase is what most people use as an excuse for being trashy. Flaunting it doesn’t mean bearing it all out, it mean accentuating, not necessarily exposing it.

If your life was a movie, what would be its title and who would play you? It’d be called ‘The Prodigal Child’. As a Christian, I lose my way too many times but God keeps reminding me that I’m never too far away for Him to draw me back. And I take comfort in the peace of knowing whenever I go back to Him, He meets me halfway. I’d love EMMA STONE to play me. I fell in love with her after watching ‘The Help.’
What would I find in your handbag right now? My camera (I know I should put it in a camera bag but that’s just excess luggage for me). My hand cream. Chocolates and wrappers of chocolates. I eat too much junk for my own good.

Your house is in flames, what one item would you save out of your closet and why? I actually just glanced at my closet and I really can’t see anything worth getting burnt for. Nothing is that precious to me. If it were things outside my closet, it’d be my camera and passport.
Your all time fashion icon is…Audrey Hepburn and Olivia Palermo. They are both effortlessly stylish. Well Audrey was.

Your favourite quote. I used to worry so much about being overdressed until a friend said to methere’s no such thing as being overdressed’ and that has stuck with me ever since.

What’s your advice to young people?  You make me sound old. I’m only 19. LOL. Take risks. Lots of risks. You’re allowed to make mistakes. That’s the only way to learn and grow. Don’t let anyone tell you your fashion choices are not acceptable or normal. Normal is just a setting on your dryer. When it comes to fashion and style, there are no rules…no handbooks. It’s an expression of who you are, so if you let people put down your style, you’re letting them tell you you’re not good enough and that’s never acceptable. <3

I’m getting my hair braided in a couple of days, I shall be trying out many of Tomi’s styles, lol!
I love her style, laid back but still stands out, comfy without being boring.
    However…
IMO, she should lay off the heavy/dark lippie stuff, it ages her. HTe first and last pic look completely different, and not in a good way.
Secondly, and Idylle this one is for you, when you started with ‘Style comes in different shapes and styles’. I got immediately excited, hoping for a plus-size fashionista. Instead I saw another, stylish, beautiful, true, but still size 6 girl like all the others. Show me something different luv! A stylish size 16 girl. A scientist with fashion sense. Anything, as long as it’s different.

I love her style, I follow her blog and her style is amazing, it’s a shame you didn’t put up any of her recent pics, 5x better than what I’m seeing now but nonetheless she still looks fab!

Oh & I’ve always wanted to ask for her age but I’m scared to lol, did you happen to get that info from her when you interviewed her?? I’m just curious 🙂
